Bruce “Angry” Lycett
Dear Hunters Hill Juniors community, boys and parents ,
One of the Hunters Hill Rugby’s biggest stalwarts Bruce Lycett passed away yesterday. Bruce was known to many throughout the wider Hunters Hill Rugby community having started playing colts at the age of 16 in 1960.Bruce was a player, a committee member, a coach , a manager, the Seniors President and the Junior Vice President from 1981 till 1987. Bruce was nominated and accepted as a Life Member in 1979. More recently Bruce has been instrumental in setting up the Archive Committee and was recently present at our first “Back to Boronia Night” quietly sipping a glass of red in the Archive tent waiting to explain to any that wandered by, interested or not, the rich and colourful history of Hunters Hill Rugby. Our junior award “The Angry” for outstanding service to the Juniors was inaugurated in 2008 and was presented by Bruce at our presentation night a few weeks ago. This year the club nominated Bruce for the HSBC Lifetime Volunteer 2014 and up until last week was in the last 5 nominees.
Bruce has been a mentor to many at the club over the last 50 years, I am sure to many to count. More recently to many junior fathers at our annual Cats Vs Dads game where he handed out the port at half time to get us up and running again. To me personally and I am sure the past two Juniors Presidents, Andrew Skelly and Ben Gregory, feel the same, Bruce has helped us and our committees if we needed it ,chastised us if he thought that we should be doing something and generally rallied us to bring the various arms of the club together for the benefit of the entire Hunters Hill Rugby Community young and old.
So on behalf of Hunters Hill Juniors I would like to wish our condolences to Bruce’s wife Carol and son Craig.
