QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY HONOURS 2010
Fourteen people in TWT territory have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday 2010 Honours List: two recieved an AO, six an AM and six an OAM.
OFFICER (AO) IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

JOHN EDWARD HARVEY AM, Hunters Hill, for distinguished service to the information technology industry, particularly through developing partnerships with Government and educational institutions, and to the community.
Mr Harvey was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in The Queen’s Birthday 2000 Honours List for his service to the arts, particularly as Chairman of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, to youth training in the area of business education, and to the community. The following summarises his service and involvement since then.
Current Executive Director, IBM Australia Ltd; joined 1968.
Currently involved in partnership with the University of Ballarat, including: - Facilitator and Leader of government-industry-education partnership, resulting in Ballarat - Technology Park at the University; the Park has generated an estimated $260 million in flow-on - benefits for NSW. - Involved in the development of the School of Information Technology and Mathematical - Sciences through the establishment of the IBM Regional Software Solutions Centre at the - University, 2003. Established IBM Scholarship Program, The Australian Computer Society - Foundation Trust Fund. Author, Transition - the IBM Story, 2008; net proceeds of sales donated - to the Australian Computer Society Foundation Trust Fund which provides scholarships to - students at Ballarat University.
Current Director, Australian Information Industries Association. Involved in the formation of the MultiPLIERS (Multinationals Promoting Local Investment, Export Opportunities and Research Strengths).
Key role in the formation of the National IT Advisory Body, Commonwealth Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts; leading role in the Building on IT Strengths Program.
Current Life Patron, Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO); continued involvement through the Sponsorship Agreement between IBM and ACO; former Chairman of the Board.

Prof GORDON BARRACLOUGH PARKER, Northwood, for distinguished service to psychiatry as a clinician and researcher, particularly as a major contributor to the understanding and innovative treatment of mood disorders and as founder and executive director of the Black Dog Institute.
Founder, executive director and Director of Research, Black Dog Institute, since 2002. Professor of Psychiatry, University of NSW, since 1983, Scientia Professor, since 2001; Head of School of Psychiatry, 1983-2002.
Director, Psychiatry, Prince of Wales and Prince Henry hospitals, 1983-1996. Founder and Research Director, Mood Disorders Unit (MDU), 1985; which was originally sited at the Prince Henry Hospital and moved to the Prince of Wales Hospital in 1999. In 2001 the MDU became the Black Dog Institute in a new building at the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Clinical Director, Mental Health, Eastern Area Health Service, Sydney, 1992-1995. Part-time Research Director, Institute of Mental Health, Singapore, 1998-2000. Fellow, The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychia-trists, since the mid 1970s. Author, editor, presenter, lecturer; has authored 10 books, edited three others, written 31 book chapters for inclusion in peers’ works, and written more than 500 scientific articles.
One of the most highly cited Australians in the domain of psychiatry/psychology, and one of the most productive Australians in peer-reviewed publications over the past 10 years.
Currently on the editorial board of 16 international scientific journals. Author of one book of fiction, 1966; and one play, 2004. TV writer and radio broadcaster for the ABC.

Prof LOUISE ALISON BAUR, Beecroft, for service to medicine, particularly in the field of paediatric obesity as a researcher and academic, and to the community through support for a range of children’s charities.

MOHINI INDIRA GUNASE-KERA, Oatlands, for service to the Sri Lankan community, to Buddhism through leadership and support of a range of organisations, and to interfaith dialogue. Current Trustee and Treasurer, University Buddhist Education Foundation (UBEF); Chairperson of Trustees, for four years; UBEF funded a lecturer in Buddhist Studies, University of Sydney, for four years; and the first visiting Professor of Buddhist Studies, University of Sydney, 2009; and provides the Pali Prize for the best student of the Buddhist language.
Established a trust to establish library centres in villages throughout Sri Lanka, ongoing; the centres provide books, computers and crafts.
Provides ongoing support to a Sri Lankan village to promote the learning of English through the offering of prizes to the best English student in each class from kindergarten to Year 12, such as computers, encyclopaedias, dictionaries and various other books, since 2005. Inaugural President, Federation of Australian Buddhists Councils, for the past four years; Vice-President; Representative at overseas conferences, including the Buddhist Summit held in Japan. DIANNE MARIAN HILES, Rozelle for service to the community as an advocate for human rights and social justice, particularly for asylum seekers and children in detention. Chair, ‘A Just Australia’, since 2007; Member, since 2006; Secretary, 2007; a national policy lobby group campaigning for just policies and programs for refugees and asylum seekers. Coordinator/Chairperson, ChilOut (Children Out of Detention), since 2002-2006; Co-Founder, 2001; a group opposed to mandatory detention of children in Australian immigration detention centres.

MAHBOBA RAWI, North Ryde for service to international humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. Founder, Mahboba’s Promise, since 1998.
Mahboba’s Promise is an Australian non-government organisation established by Mrs Rawi to provide aid for disadvantaged Afghani women, widows, children and orphans in a secure environment in Afghanistan. Continual fundraising in Australia allows the organisation to establish and sustain locally-staffed schools, orphanages, health clinics and community facilities, and to provide vocational training programs to encourage self-sufficiency in individuals and sustainable outcomes.
