16 June 2010 BEETHOVEN FOR BOUGAINVILLE Beethoven for Bougainville
Music lovers have a rare opportunity to enjoy Beethoven’s magnificent Choral Symphony no 9 amidst glorious surrounds while contributing to the education of needy students in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.
St Joseph’s College Hun-ters Hill will host a concert by the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra & Choir this Sunday June 20 June in the College chapel, Mark Street, at 2.30pm.
All profits will go to supporting the students and families of St Joseph’s School in Mabiri, Bougainville.
The orchestra will be joined by guest singers Mabiri Voices for the performance and concert also features soloists Samantha Maddison (soprano), Amanda Wagg (alto), Stuart Nielsen Kemp (tenor) and Simon Turnill (bass).
These talented performers have extensive national and international experience.
The evening will be conducted by Orchestra Music Director Peter Ellis, who is also a St Joseph’s College staff member. The Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra has a developing relationship with the college, having performed there on three previous occasions.
The performance will be the largest concert ever undertaken by the orchestra, featuring more than 80 performers.
SJC has a strong relationship with the Mabiri community, having established a service learning partnership with St Joseph’s School in 2008. The college provides much needed resources and funds to the school and a number of SJC students and staff have visited the community.
St Joseph’s College Director of Mission, Mrs Helen Smith, will be on hand at the concert to explain more about the vital work being done by the SJC community to support the people of Mabiri.
Tickets: $20/$15 concession are available at door.
