YOU WON'T GET BETTER THAN CUCINETTA

You won’t get better than Cucinetta

CUCINETTA, overlooking the water and city skyline from Woolwich, was first opened by chef Vincenzo Mazzotta and host Giovanni Finocchiaro, in 2006.

It is located opposite the Pier Hotel and next to Woolwich Lookout.

The already-established restaurant underwent a refurbishment, including a new outside deck, under the supervision of Karen Quant in September last year.

Quant looked at everything from the restaurant’s garbage room, to the cool room in her feng shui-inspired redesign.

“We had heard from other businesses in the eastern suburbs that their business profitability and staff morale had improved and coincided with Karen’s services and decided to give it a go,” Mazzotta said.

The look is modern and clean. The food is even better.

Finocchiaro, a great host, recommended the crusted zucchini flowers with ricotta, pear, lemon, mandarin, mustard fruits and pan-seared quail ($26) for starters.

There’s also the very good fried and crumbed eggplant parcels, with buffalo mozzarella, roasted peppers and cherry tomato ($25).

As the wind soughed outside, the rich gnocchi filled with goats’ cheese, beetroot, butter and aged balsamic vinegar ($27 entree, $35 main course) went down a treat.

For main courses, a popular choice is the maialino al forno, which is twice-cooked Bangalow pork belly, served with thyme, garlic and fennel seeds ($37).

In June and July, Cucinetta has two-course ($49) and three-course ($59) specials from Tuesday to Thursday evening and on Thursday and Friday for lunch.

In spring, Mazzotta and Finocchiaro are planning to open for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and lunch on Saturday.

Well worth a look.
