29 June 2010 HILLIES BACK ON TRACK Hillies back on track
AFTER the disappointing loss to Briars over the long weekend, Hunters Hill Rugby Club needed to enter the second half of the 2010 NSW Suburban Div 2 season on a high to state their intentions of a semi final place.
Fortunately last Saturday the team responded in the best way possible against the University of NSW.
In what was a successful day for the club with all six grades winning, Hillies first grade XV showed why the rest of the season is going to be at the very least, entertaining.
Duncan Taylor, Burzin Mehta and David Marshall all returned to the back line with Marshall slotting into No 9 for the first time in a Hillies shirt.
Alex Light returned at No 8 to bring his much needed experiance and Nick Roach made his top grade debut at hooker. Coach Peter Allen could not have hoped for a better response from the players as they took it to the Students with Tom Kellaway, improving with each performance, crossing the line after some good ruck play from the forwards.
Sammy Henry was on hand to convert a penalty and converted the try leaving the scores at 10-3 at half time. Kellaway managed a second try after good work from Mehta and Ben Bates before Uni found their way over the try line. After converting the try and scoring another penalty, Henry got Hillies noses in front 20-10, but Uni fought back to trail 20-15. Henry sealed victory with a penalty goal.
Hunters Hill seconds won 32-10; thirds 12-10; fourths 19-5; Colts 41-7 and fifths 12-0. The Club hosts Kings Old Boys this Saturday at Boronia Park Oval.
