4 July 2010 OUTREACH PROGRAM'S FRESH LOOK Outreach program’s fresh look

T is like “being on a different planet” compared to its past.
So says Lane Cove MP Anthony Roberts, who through the Community Building Partnerships Scheme, allocated $21,000 to the fellowship for upgrades.
The Gladesville office was the oldest surviving psychiatric building in Australia, and to make it useful it needed renovations, Schizophrenia Fellowship CEO Rob Ramjan said.
“We had people on old desks, there were unusable areas and no privacy for volunteers operating the telephone outreach program from here,” he said.
Since the renovations, which amounted to almost $33,000, volunteers have more privacy for the outreach program, the workspaces are “much more usable” and more staff are able to be accommodated.
New computers, desks and headphones were brought, while walls were painted and a large amount of electrical work was carried out.
“I’m just so incredibly proud of what you do here and I’m glad to be able to give a little bit of a hand to the service you provide,” Mr Roberts said at the launch of the renovated facilities on Monday.
“What the fellowship team provide is something we all should be grateful for,” he said. TWT on-the-spot PHOTO
