HUNTERS HILL HAPPENINGS

What are your thoughts on local parking meters?

HUNTERS HILL HAPPENINGS
with Mayor SUE HOOPMANN

I HOPED I would never see the day that Hunters Hill had parking meters in the streets.
Sadly it is closer than we think. Only two streets in Woolwich so far are affected, but I wish it were none. The streets are Franki Avenue and Clarke Road.

The other affected area so far is Clarkes Point, for which the money collected will assist in the maintenance of the park area. Residents who have a sticker on their windscreen will not be affected; stickers will be distributed by Council nearer the time of implementation, which I am told will be October 1.

The other areas under discussion are Buffalo Creek Reserve and the two ferry wharves, Valentia Street and Huntleys Point. The ferry wharves, of course, will include two more residential streets. Please write/email to Council with your thoughts on this development.  council@huntershill.nsw.gov.au

A RECENT newspaper article entitled ‘Sky’s the limit on changes’ and which talked about a “new navigation plan for Sydney”, has generated concern among residents.

The article stated “... the biggest change to aircraft noise across the city since 1997 involves a new navigation system for Sydney airport.” This is the sentence that concerned residents: “It is used overseas to increase the number of flights.”

Subsequently Council invited Tony Williams, former community advocate appointed to Sydney Airport Community Forum, to brief Council on the methodology and its potential impacts.
As a result of this information Council thought that it would be a good idea to write to the Minister to voice its concerns and to ask for additional information, community consultation, an opportunity to participate in relevant decision-making processes, and to gain reports of noise monitoring from the monitor on Hunters Hill High School on a regular basis.

The letter was also sent to local MPs and neighbouring Council areas that would be affected. I will advise of future developments.

INVITATIONS ARE still going out for the Cocktail Party at Deckhouse, Woolwich Dock, on Friday July 30. What a view, it looks straight up to the Harbour Bridge, great food and wine.

It will be a magnificent event and it will assist The Priory to move forward to the next stage if enough people attend to maximise the contribution towards the restoration of the roof of The Priory.

If you would like to attend and have not yet received an invitation, phone 9817 4546 and leave a message or Annie Goodman at Council on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday on 9879 9451.

AN EMOTIONAL and well-deserved surprise farewell was organised by Boronia Park Public School community of for retiring Principal Miss Marilyn Torr.

North Sydney MP Joe Hockey reiterated all our thoughts when he said how much Marilyn will be missed, how much she has given to the school in the 15 years she has been at the helm and how she has built the school to great heights with enormous dedication.

The school is an important part of our community and Hunters Hill Council presented Marilyn with a Beverly Sherry book on Hunters Hill at our last school principals’ meeting.

The idea was that she could keep referring to us in her retirement and she has promised to return from time to time to see us.

We wish Miss Marilyn Torr all the very best for her retirement and thank her for leaving Boronia Park Public School with such strong foundations that it will continue to flourish in the future.
