“Create and enCourage” Pop-up Gallery
10 September, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 18 September, 2016 @ 4:30 pm
Hunters Hill Ryde Community Services (HHRCS) will be holding its 3rd Annual Community Art Expo as a Pop-up Gallery, with a special Opening Night event on Friday September 9th. Building on the success of last year’s Community Art Exhibition held at Gladesville Shopping Village , this year’s theme Create and enCourage¬† celebrates self-expression and creativity.¬†¬† Born from the successful arts programs run by Hunters Hill Ryde Community Services, North Ryde Community Aid and Christian Community Aid for last few years, the exhibition showcases the creativity of both aspiring and experienced artists.
The theme ‘Create and enCourage’ signifies the joy that art can bring to the maker and the courage and the commitment it takes to develop your skills and then share them with a wider audience. It also recognises the health benefits of making art and sharing art. Since the 90’s there has been growing evidence of the health benefits of making art as it has been found to lift mood, reduce our stress levels, increase concentration, and has recently been cited as capable of keeping our brains fit and active. Sharing art enriches the community, celebrates individuality and provides a valuable contrast to the many factory made and mass produced products that are available. We encourage the public to come and visit the exhibition and help celebrate creativity and support our diverse artists and our local community.
The HHRCS Art and Craft Programs are generously supported by the Gladesville RSL. All the materials and tuition and is covered by the Clubs NSW grant. Our limited funding would never allow us to conduct such programs without this additional, invaluable support. Thank you Gladesville RSL Club!
This year, organiser Hunters Hill Ryde Community Services will also be partnering with University of Sydney Business School who will offer their students the opportunity to manage the pop up Gallery through their Job Smart volunteer program. The University program recognises the considerable work involved in managing community events and encourages students to get some hands on experience.¬† HHRCS welcomes the students’ commitment¬†¬† which has enabled the Gallery to be open to the public for one full week.
Once again, the Gladesville Shopping Village was kind enough to donate the venue to us. This event would not be possible without their support. You can find us in the Gladesville Shopping Village at 6 Flagstaff St in the two shops exactly opposite COLES Supermarket.  The opening night will be on the 9th of September from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. Complimentary refreshments will be served for all to enjoy. This is a special evening and opportunity for the public to meet the artists and makers.
All artworks are available for sale at very reasonable prices, and each purchase supports local artists and community centres at the same time.
